Hello, I am Brenda Ledbetter and I have been working at Oden Public Schools, which is now a part of the Ouachita River School District, since 1986.  My teaching certificate includes Special Education - Pre-K through grade 12; secondary English-including AP certification; Social Studies; Journalism, and ESL - Pre-K through grade 12.  I have lived in the Oden area for the past 43 years. I am married to Shelton Ledbetter and we have three children: Shelton Ledbetter, Jr. (Junior); Brent Ledbetter; and Deyan Ledbetter Dowdy.

I have worked as a Special Education teacher most of that time. My schedule has generally included one to three classes in the area of English, journalism, or history along with the Resource Room.  I enjoy my job because I like working with students and because I like a challenge. My job always provides a challenge for me. For the past three years, I have also been working on Remediation as one of the classes I teach. The remediation is a required class for any student who did not score proficient or above on the Benchmark or End of Course tests.

I am looking forward to working with a new group of students and doing different subjects this year. I enjoy working with students of all ages, and I and sure we will have a good year this year.

Special Education has not changed any of the paperwork that we use this year, so parents and teachers, maybe there will not be as much confusion as the year begins. Everything should become familiar within a few weeks.

This year I will be teaching one class in Journalism as well as working with Resource Classes and other assigned duties.

            Special Education

My philosophy for working with handicapped students is to determine what level they are working on at the present time and do everything I can to get them to the highest level of achievement that is possible for them.

            Advanced Placement

My philosophy for this group is to give them as much practice as possible and get them ready for the AP exams at the end of the year. We will be reading and/or writing daily in this class.

            Journalism

My plan for this class is to follow the state guidelines for the curriculum. The students will study the background and history of journalism, the laws that are related to journalism, and the different types of writing used in journalism. We will also get lots of practice in the different areas of journalism.

My home phone number is 870-326-4734.  I am usually home after 4:00 or 5:00 in the afternoon. You may also call the school when you need to contact me. Leave a message if you can not reach me. I will call you back as soon as I can.

I am looking forward to working with a new group of students and doing different subjects this year. I enjoy working with students of all ages, and I and sure we will have a good year this year.

Special Education has again changed all of the rules as well as the paperwork that we use, so parents and teachers, expect a little confusion as the year begins. Everything should become familiar within a few weeks.

Expectations

I expect all students to follow the school rules which are as follows:

Be in your seat and ready to begin work when the bell rings.

Bring all needed materials to class.

Respect and be polite to all people and respect others property.

Obtain permission before speaking or leaving your seat.

Other than these rules, I expect students to do the following:

            Attempt all assignments

Ask questions if you do not understand the assignment

Keep a list (record, log, etc) of your assignments every day

(I can give the student a notebook to keep up with this)

Bring any assignments to your resource class when you need help

Complete assignments on time (let me know if there is a problem)

Read books from the library on the student’s level
